Hello, Konichiwa and Bonjour

We are the curation team – some of the minds behind the Waterhouse Gallery. Together, we are responsible for putting together the selection of artists and artworks. We are excited to see your creations and possibly work with you!

What to expect

About the event

The Waterhouse Gallery is a social art festival powered by Viva con Agua Nederland, which combines arts and culture with issues surrounding water and sanitation. Organized to make art accessible in an innovative and fun way, art styles and mediums are mixed together, creating a platform for upcoming as well as established artists.

The Gallery will open in October 2020, in a wonderful location in Groningen, filled with possibilities and potential.

Your Profile

We are looking for artists that are interested in contributing their creativity to a social cause: access to clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene facilities all around the world. We seek creative humans that want to make new connections and help us create a wonderful experience for both artists and visitors.

This year’s theme is ‘CYCLES’, and your artwork should match this topic. How you exactly interpret this is completely open: life and death, water cycles, moon cycles, or the female cycle, it’s up to you! Be inspired and find the cycle that you relate to.

Questions you might have

All local and foreign creatives that are interested in contributing their creativity to a good cause: we are looking for innovative humans to share their work in the Waterhouse Gallery 2020 in Groningen.

Right here, through this website, as easy as that. If you want to apply to exhibit at the Waterhouse Gallery 2020, we would like to receive your artistic portfolio, or an already existing artwork that you find fitting to our theme + a personal min. 250 word ‘explanation’ of our theme as well as a short introduction. The open call deadline is on the 14st of August. We will try our best to respond to every application and as soon as possible, so that there is enough time to work on final art pieces if that is not included in the application yet.

As of right now we are positive that we can enjoy a weekend filled with arts, culture and music in October.
But of course we can’t promise anything as this situation is as unpredictable as it can get. We will be in constant contact with you on the current situation and have a Plan B and C in the back of our minds, that could include postponing the event or working under specific limitations.

If we have looked at your application and decided that you are a good fit for our vision of the gallery, welcome to the family! We are so happy to be working with you. But what can you expect? When we decide that we would like to work with you, we will contact you via email. If you send in a portfolio we would love to talk about already existing sketches or ideas with you. Following this, we can discuss shared material costs and the options for transporting it (and maybe yourself) here for the gallery in October.
Supplies, accommodation, bikes to borrow, nurturing and good vibes can be provided. This is to be communicated in greater detail after your application arrives in our mailbox and we know what you will create!

The Waterhouse Gallery is an event that works towards access to clean drinking water, sanitation and hygiene facilities for people all around the world. We do so through donating to Viva con Agua.
When an artwork is sold at the gallery, a recommended separation of the profit is 70/30, meaning that 70% of the value goes to Viva con Agua and 30% right in your pocket. This percentage is a recommendation and can of course be discussed.

If you have any more urgent questions, we would be happy to answer them for you. Email us at [email protected] and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
